The One With The Memorial Service

Episode 9.17

[Previous][Next][Back to the Master List]

Ross and Chandler post bogus information about each other on their college's alumni web site. It escalates until Chandler posts that Ross has died, and Ross arranges a memorial service to see who comes. Emma grows attached to Joey's stuffed toy penguin, Hugsy. He gets another one so he can have the original back, but Emma doesn't go for it. Phoebe and Mike struggle with their break-up, and are drawn back together.

The one where they said....

Joey: Uh, Rach?
Rachel: Yeah?
Joey: What's Hugsy doing in the crib with Emma?
Rachel: Oh, well, she was just crawling around, and she found him, so I just let her sleep with him. That's alright, isn't it?
Joey: Oh, of course. He's a stuffed animal. He's for kids. Not for adults. I know that.
Rachel: Are you sure? Because I know how much you love him.
Joey: Okay, Rachel, let's be clear on this. I do not "love" hugsy. I like him a normal amount.
Rachel: Alright. Well, Emma loves him.
Joey: Well, why wouldn't she? He's a wonderful person!

Ross: Your little "Ross is dead" joke didn't work, okay? There were no responses. Nobody posted anything on the web site, nobody called my parents. So the joke, my friend, is on you. Nobody called, nobody wrote anything. Nobody cares that I'm dead. [Pause.] Oh my God! Nobody cares that I'm dead!

Rachel: Oh, come on! You're going to take Hugsy away from a little child?
Joey: How do you think I got him in the first place?

Ross [on phone with his mother]: Actually, no, even if I had died, you would not be left childless. [Listens.] Monica!
